Welcome to DAFstory.com, your cozy corner of the internet where tales and legends become bilingual. I’m slowly expanding a collection of stories that have stood the test of time, and bring them to you so you can recall your childhood favourites while you improve your German skills.

My story!

I’ve been teaching German to immigrants and expats in Switzerland for a long time, although I’m not a native speaker myself. That means I know the struggles of the learning experience, and I also know some tricks I will be passing on to you all.

Since many of my students complain that they struggle to find reading material, I decided that I’d like to create a collection of stories and texts you can gradually read in German. The progressive translation system is inspired by the book Der great Gatsby, which seems to be one of a kind so far.

Public Domain: Every single story you find on this website is sourced exclusively from the public domain and the translations are than made by me for educational purposes. This means these wonderful tales are no longer under copyright protection and are free for everyone to share and enjoy. You can rest assured that I am committed to respecting intellectual property rights, and I will never knowingly publish copyrighted material.

Your Privacy: Just as I value the freedom of stories, I also value your privacy. If you comment on a post or contact me, I’ll only use the information you provide to respond to you. I also use Google Analytics to understand general website traffic, like which stories are popular or where the readers generally come from. This helps me make Dafstory.com better for you, but rest assured, I do not collect or have access to any personal information about individual visitors. My goal is to make sure you can learn and read with me freely and anonymously.

What you’ll find here:

As you may have noticed, I have three main categories:

DAF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache): is all about learning the German language. Here you will find grammar, vocabulary lists, useful dialogues, etc…

Stories: tales, legends, rhymes etc – I’ll adapt them individually for German learners with a progressive translation, simplified text, or with clickable translations, depending on which adaptation I believe is best for each story.

Switzerland: when you live in Switzerland, the language is only one of the things you will need to get used to. Many people aren’t really aware of their rights and duties, so this section is all about information I consider useful to you.
